Just a small town boy that wants to share his musings on everyday life.

Why Am I keeping this journal?

To tell you the truth I am not positive myself. Guess I could have kept a private journal, but I am retired you see and I guess it makes me feel that I am going to work.
Another probable reason is that the older I get I reminence on days gone by and realize that there were some positives. Heck there maybe people out there that would like to know them.

THIS EVERDAY LIFE

Swore when I started this blog that political considerations or comments about controversial matters were not going to be in its content. But doggone I picked up the USA Today for a quick late read and an articles concerning American military being killed while passing out toys to kids in Iraq. No only were they killed but a number of Iraqi kids were wounded. Couldn't help but reminisce about the start of this war. In the aftermath of 9/11, I admit to the occupying of Afghanistan to attempt to destroy terrorist operations and training facilities being sanctioned in that country by the Taliban as a necessary couse of action. Readers I was also in favor of the invasion of Iraq based on the fact the president had without a doubt convinced me that there were WMAs in the country. People lets face it Saddam was one hell of a convincing wolfer in his threats against this country. It appeared obvious to me that something had to be done to this madman. The president had virtually all of us convinced that the man was in charge of weaponry that really could wreck havoc upon his designated targeted portions the world. Judging from his rantings it was conceivable to me that he could actually sponsor terriost attacks using chemicals. Heck even the president said so. Well obviously I am ashamed to admit that the situation was nowhere as bad as I was led to believe. Me, a guy that considered himself savvy to all the manipulative shenanigans of chilli-pimp politicians. But the president of the United States is no chilli-pimp pol. Or so I thought. Damned after the invasion of Iraq the thrust went from no WMAs to there could have possibly been some WMAs--"Look what Saddam did to his own people." After that didn't seem to fly, the thrust and reason for our presence in Iraq suddenly turned to democracy for the Iraqi people. For some strange reason there was not a hue and cry from no one hardly in governance. Hell the opposition side of the ailse (Democrats) were as quite as a group of church mouse. Me I felt that I'd been personally hoodwinked by the president. Even giving the man the benefit of the doubt regarding incomplete and false counseling and intelligence information from his staff, it still appeared that he was just plain determined to invade and occupy Iraq regardless of how he was counseled. As a veteran of Vietnam, I could see a lot of parallels; false hoods presented to the American citizenry, using the military's presence in harms way as a means to foster an atmosphere of unpatriotism on the part of dissenters, favoritism's to contractors, and even plain greed on the part of those manipulating this war. Well today there has been considerable time and considerable loss of life and property and there is still no concrete assurance that there will not be a recurrence of 9/11 or something similar. As for the Iraqis there is even less security, as a matter of fact it can be truthfully said that their lives have become a living hell since our arrival. Lets be objective not even the rascality of Saddam's regime could measure up to the disasters that have been imposed on these people since our arrival. Goodness, I wish that I could say that I felt an immediate pullout would be the answer for all the woes for this country and the Middle East but I seriously doubt it. But I am equally convinced that the road travelled and the anticipated route is all wrong. As I mentioned earlier this journal was to be one of reminiscence of a guy's life without to much controversy. Except maybe that dealing with comic relief, but I am a citizen and as such feel it is my dutiful obligation to speak out on matters that have the potential dire consequences for my country. Dire they are becoming. We are quickly losing our credibility in this world. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, there will hopefully be no more rantings from this journal.
